I never had a massage in my entire. That’s because I’m so ticklish. But today, I conquered every tickling sensation just to experience one of Asia’s best and most sought-after massages by every tourist, the Thai massage.
After not being convinced by Laura to have a full body treatment spa, I decided I will try the traditional Thai massage. With a wide grin on my face, I followed the lady who is going to do the massage in a nice little cozy room inside the spa center. She gave me a pair loose and comfortable clothes to replace my shirt and jeans. There, at the floor, is a mattress which I suppose is where I’m going to lie. The room was dimly lit with incandescent. An instrumental music of violin and piano plays at the background. After a few minutes, the lady came with a basin of hot water to wash my feet.
She asked me to lie on the mattress and told me I could sleep if I wanted to. While lying, I was already thinking of ways how to keep myself from being tickled. She started wiping my feet with towel dipped in hot water then, started massaging my sole, pulling my toes, pressing and pushing my feet. Slowly, she goes up to my legs, with harder push and squeezing of the muscle.
As she goes up my thigh and does the necessary massaging procedures, I started to get tickled so much that I was laughing boisterously already and trying to stop her. She speaks a little English and perhaps couldn’t say I should keep still. Looking at me, she started laughing also. I’ve told her already before we started that I get tickled easily. As we progressed in the Thai massage procedure, the presses, squeezes, stretching, pulling and pushing of my muscles got harder and more intense.
Her touches were soft but hard and it doesn’t tickle anymore but it hurts. At times I was still tickled but I tried my hardest not laugh. I clenched my teeth and doesn’t breathe to keep me from laughing. It was successful, I managed not to laugh throughout the process. Her presses got harder and harder and I felt like I was being stepped upon by an elephant. The lady was smaller than me yet the pressure was like coming from one huge man. I was turned over, bent and twisted literally and I felt all the jerks on the joints of my bones and all my muscles were awakened from a long hibernation. She ended with a head massage that somehow relieved all the tight nerves around my head.
The 60-minute massage I should say was incredible. I felt like I could do ballet or gymnastics after all those stretchings. I left the massage room without any broken bone as I have thought. Although I felt like a frog being played upon, ripped apart and stepped upon by an elephant, I was indeed relieved and loosened up and freed from stress. More than that, now I can say I have gone through Thai massage victoriously. Whew! Another experience to boast J
